Seasonal Affective DisorderFor those of us still struggling with effects of winter and the lack of sunlight. Here's a potential reason why and some interventions you might want to consider. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression. SAD is most commonly associated with the change of season in the fall and winter months. SAD is caused by the lack of natural sunlight during the fall and winter months. Your body's internal clock may be disrupted. Reduce sunlight can alos result in lower serotonin and melatonin levels, resulting in sleep and mood irregularities. Effective First Line TherapiesIf you've been feeling heavy and sluggish, been over sleeping, and noticed a little weight gain, you are not alone. About 2-6% of people experience SAD and about 15% of people experience a milder form.
Here are some first-line therapies you might want to consider. Therapies inlcude Light therapy, psychotherapy, medication, and vitamin D.
